STORY #84

November 28, 2013
Name: Mike Allyn
Description: jumbo, lime green

I work at NASA in the Mission Operations Directorate on the International Space Station. I live in Colorado now, and work remotely, but I made a trip back to Houston and took the STORYclip along! The highlight of the clip's journey was definitely Mission Control, which as you can see, is named after our very first Flight Director, Chris Kraft. I took my STORYclip into the International Space Station control room where you see it below being held by an inspirational young flight controller named Julie. She was handing over control of the space station to the oncoming day shift - she is in charge of the on-board computers and all of the communication systems.

STORY #83

November 11, 2013
Name: April Fleck
Description: mangled, silver, standard

He came bearing gifts of sweettarts and diet coke and a smile so wide it would swallow the Pacific in a gulp.  I become increasingly aware of the possibility of pipe dreams.  I search my pockets for something to give him, to even out the playing field and my hands find nothing but an old silver paperclip.  I hand it to him sheepishly.  He laughs and says, "For me?" and takes it.  A small piece of metal in larger than life hands.  The lon...

STORY #82

November 11, 2013
Name: Anonymous
Description: Green, standard

Violent Rages
The violent rages started when I was 3.  He would be drunk and if I cried, I got hit; hard.  He was my stepdad, I was supposed to trust him!  He would beat my mother, my brother, and me.  Never his own son, no he would make him watch.  He always apologized, until it happened again.  My brother got older and threatened to tell, that made stepdad angry and lash out on mom and me.  I was always scared; scared that he'd kill one of us.  Mom...

STORY #81

October 24, 2013
Name: Alyssa Gardner
Description: small, pink metallic

I went to Washington State for spring break, my sophomore year.  It was a blast!  I got the chance to tour Fort Lewis military base and I met a lot of very respected people.  One thing I did that was very memorable was I drove to Forks, Washington.  The reason I wanted to go there so badly is because the story Twilight is based on the little town of Forks.  I'm not a huge fan but it was still interesting.  I got to shop at the store Bella ...

STORY #79

September 17, 2013
Name: Megan Diekhoff

I submitted this poem to a contest a few months ago and was just recently informed that it has been chosen along with 5 others to be placed in an anthology. I will receive two copies of the anthology and my school will also receive two copies.  I am extremely excited for this because it is my first published piece.  Without further ado, here it is:

Elephant Spoon

Trying to see nothing,

it seems,

causes the eyes to

choke

on the searing memo...

August 19, 2013
Name: Megan Diekhoff, Hunter Brooks, Emily Calderon
Description: All silver, standard/"Jumbo" office paperclips // Emily's (#77) has engraved stripes

An Ode to Hunter and Emily
Written By: Megan Diekhoff
Today at the start English 11 Honors class I sat down in my seat and noticed a seemingly ordinary (although I hesitate to use that word because paperclips--almost anything, for that matter--are scarcely ordinary) paperclip.  I picked it up and attached it to my pencil pouch so I wouldn't forget ...

STORY #74

August 7, 2013
Name: Shane Claiborne
Description: A paperclip Megan found on 4th street.

Megan's Note: Due to Shane's busy schedule conducting a revolution and whatnot, he suggested that I choose from some of the stories he has already posted on his Facebook page for The Simple Way. I have decided to take his advice and share some of these things he and his friends are doing because I think they are inspiring.  Even though The Simple Way is located in Philadelphia, there are still ways for people all across t...

STORY #73

July 29, 2013
Name: Megan Diekhoff
Description: small, white and red striped

This paperclip was a gift to me after a long week of band camp. Every year the staff gives out "poker chip awards" which are fun little pieces of recognition for hard work throughout the camp. Most of the awards are pretty silly and create memories about the funny things that happen while away at St. Mary of the Woods College for part of the summer. Then there are also a few serious awards to congratulate the best marchers. I am ver...
