This paperclip was a gift to me after a long week of band camp. Every year the staff gives out "poker chip awards" which are fun little pieces of recognition for hard work throughout the camp. Most of the awards are pretty silly and create memories about the funny things that happen while away at St. Mary of the Woods College for part of the summer. Then there are also a few serious awards to congratulate the best marchers. I am very happy and honored to accept the Band Camp 2013 award for "Leadership, Positive, Enthusiasm." This trophy is a 10 oz plastic cup with Sharpie writing on it. When Sara, one of our junior staff members, handed me the cup she told me to check in the bottom of it. Lo and behold there was a single paperclip!! This is the best gift I could ever possibly ask for after a long week of learning marching drill and music and although it was not necessary I am so happy to accept it. Everyone worked really hard on the show and I am so proud to be part of the Southridge Marching Raider Band! I am also very lucky to have such a great drumline family. We have accomplished a lot already and I am looking forward to what a great season this will be for us. Thank you! :)
