Hi, My name is Petri, I am a yellow paperclip.

I have had one heck of a year, let me tell you about it.

My year started out with me becoming the possession of a mad scientist; in an effort for anonymity I will call him Mr. P. Okay, mad scientist may be a bit of an overstatement but a crazy chemistry teacher none-the-less. Mr. P definitely has a bit of a sense of humor or it could be the craziness showing through. Most of my time in his possession I just laid around on his desk getting pushed from one area to another, though Mr. P is was “kind” enough to leave me out so that I wasn’t stuck in a desk drawer and forgotten about.

The time I spent on his desk was by no means exciting, what it was was educational. I would just lay there and watch the lecture presentations. Yes, paperclips have eyes just very small. Sometimes Mr. P’s desk would get a little cluttered and I would get covered up so I couldn’t see the board but I could still hear what was going on. I would take in all of his lessons and I learned much. The lessons started off easy but quickly became considerably more difficult as time progressed. Now I do admit without having hands to write down notes and do practice problems it was a little challenging. This was overcome easily with a little extra perseverance. I think some of his students needed a little more perseverance and they would have done better.

There was one day this past year I do remember very clearly. I guess Mr. P thought that I had learned a lesson well enough and he allowed me to teach it to his pupils. Though when the time came I froze up, I’m not much of a public speaker. I mainly just clung to Mr. P’s tie like a tie tack, and didn’t say a thing. So be it for me to mention the option to teach again was never offered.

I finally did make it through the school year with Mr. P it was a long an arduous educational journey but fun none the less. I really hope that his students learned as much as I did in his class. But, I might just leave that as a HOPE. Who knows I may try and make it through another year but we will see.

Well that was my crazy year, I wish yours is as good but hopefully a little more active.

I was getting ready to perform at my very first Grammy Award Show! I already walked on the red carpet, I was nervous so as I walked along and stopped so the paparazzi could take my picture. I closed my eyes to take the pictures. All I heard was, click, click, boom! The paparazzi yelling, "a little the left, to the right, over the shoulder!" So many flashing lights. I'm glad I made it through that. I was set to perform third. I was becoming more and more nervous as it was getting close! What if I failed? What if I forgot the lyrics to my own song or the choreography. Now, I'm okay with tripping, tripping is okay! Whatever happens, no matter how embarrassing, I'm gonna get back up and do what I do! I've been planning this performance ever since I was 17 years old! I'm not 24 and I'm finally going to perform my dream! My dream performance was always to perform at the Grammy Awards, and I would have the stage built like my bedroom and then turn into the bathroom, where for years I pretended it to be my stage. It was time for me to perform. I hit the stage, I started off slow with a medley of the songs, "Dreaming of You," a classical version of "Just Dance," a acapella version of "Born This Way," then I performed song "Difference is Beauty," but I started it off slow, I ended my performance with a piano version of "Applause!" This performance was just a "thank you" to all the artists that have inspired me and made me who I am. Everyone cheered for me! I got off stage, someone had spilled water and I didn't see it and slipped. I woke up, I was no longer in L.A., I was back in my old home, in my bed. It was all just a dream...it was all just a dream.

Hammers

My life is like a box of hammers.
A tool that is used for not its want,
But as the mastery of others.
No matter how hard it tries,
It cannot move, it cannot change,
Yet it strives over and over again.
Nothing changes, nothing bends.
It is not anything drill, saw, or mill.
No its dreams are limited,
And its skills demented.
But no matter what it says,
Nothing can change.
Hit hard, swing faster. Pound others,
But not their hearts.
How can a hammer do that of a screw?
Why can't it hold others together?
Is it not of the same brew?
What if it is not a hammer?
What if it wants to be more?
More than a hammer?
No, that's not what's planned.
The other tools chosen,
Not because of use,
But of name, of attitude, and appearance.
Maybe the hammer would like to do more
Be more than a face or a mallet.
It tries so hard, but the carpenter sees no more.
For it is only a hammer
And nothing more.

Stipend

If only money wasn't here
If we only bartered squirrels and deer.
But now instead of a glorious hunt,
We stand in but a munificent realm
If anything, we are not of the litter but a runt.

How come Income seems so hard core
Who cares about six digits, seven, or more?
Are we not something more than a sum?
Money can't buy the world
And those who can are but scum.

Stipend, stipend, stupid, stupendous.
Why is money above the wondrous?
If all we can think is the dollar sign,
Then maybe we are below a dime.
I rather not have that as mine.

Cherishing love, cherishing money is it not the same?
If a shooting star suddenly came,
Would it not be anything but a star?
For we are content with shooting stars,
Rather than getting out of the mar.

On a cold January day, this small teal paperclip was left abandoned in a snowy parking lot. A family was on its way to see a comedy and music act at JCAC by Audiobody. When One Door Closes...

It is said that when one door closes another door opens. I learned this in a very literal sense.

As a new driver, I took extra caution on my trip into town. Despite this caution, however, I spent my Sunday afternoon tangled in the mess that is the experience of having a wreck.

Another driver had not seen me entering into an intersection and hit my car on the driver side, spinning me around until I was facing west on an eastbound road. Neither of us were hurt in the incident, but my car has been hauled off on account that the insurance company declared it as totaled. The driver door (which I could not escape from during the wreck) was smashed underneath the backseat door, which no longer closes. There was also damage to the frame of the car. Luckily, the insurance of the other driver will cover the cost, as I had the right of way in the situation. We are still amazed that not even minor injuries resulted. I was later told that if I would have tried to slow down in order to avoid the accident, there was a good chance the damage would have been worse, placing most of the impact on my door instead of the one behind me. This, of all things, taught me the necessity of continuing to move forward.

I feared that my life needed to change and that I needed to start making better choices about who I am. However, after examining myself for the rest of the evening and calling my family and friends, I realized that there isn't much I would change. My purpose on Earth has not yet been fulfilled. There are still places I have to go, things I need to do, and people I need to love. The best I can do is continue to follow my dreams and try to help others do the same.

To all the victims of many, many other wrecks recently...I am praying for you.
